Designing Futures Through Honors Education

Join Honors faculty and staff for roundtable talks and a book launch highlighting how transformative experiential learning led to student exhibitions and a pollinator garden in Venice

unEarthed, Second Nature, PolliNATION represents two exhibitions produced by the Virginia Tech Honors College, including one of the eleven collateral events selected by Curator Carlo Ratti for the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia.

The project was led by the Virginia Tech Honors College and Cloud 9 Architecture, curated by Dr. Enric Ruiz Geli and Dr. Anne-Lise Velez, and included 11 projects completed by 142 students and 12 faculty members. On display: the power of transdisciplinary educational pedagogy.

Join faculty and staff from Honors for roundtable presentations and a book launch in which we will describe the academic environment in which transformative experiential learning contributed to exhibitions of student works and a pollinator garden in Venice.

Our roundtable speakers will summarize the ethos of learning environments where students gain skills in collaborative discovery through in-class and out-of-class experiences. The operations, teaching, and financial structures that contributed to our success will be shared. Book launch by ACTAR Publishers and Ramon Prat (founder and editor) immediately to follow.

Speakers:

  • Nikki Lewis, Collegiate Associate Professor and Methods Lead
  • Rebecca Bott, Dean
  • Sara Vandyke, Associate Dean for Academic Operations
  • Lefter Daku, Associate Dean for Finance and Administration
  • Russell Shrader, Director of Admissions and Scholarships
