The European Cultural Centre will take part in Art Night 2021

On the occasion of Venice Art Night 2021, the European Cultural Centre is pleased to take part in the event with the exhibition La-tèn-te and the evening opening of Time Space Existence at Palazzo Bembo and Palazzo Mora on 2 October 2021 from 5.00pm to 9.30pm.

The tenth edition of Art Night Venezia will take place concurrently and in agreement with the famous Nuit Blanche in Paris to be held on the same day. For the tenth anniversary, the event, one of the most anticipated in the city, conceived and coordinated by Ca ‘Foscari University in Venice in collaboration with the Municipality of Venice, has chosen to align itself with the other European Art Nights.

In accordance with theme proposed for Art Night 2021 ‘L’Arte Libera la Notte’, a group of international emergent and established artists and curators present La-tèn-te, an exhibition that investigates a dreamlike dimension as a questioning of the real, as another world to refer to in order to find expressive possibilities and fruitful contamination of genres and styles.

The iconic Palazzo Mora will be the backdrop to the sculptures by Francesco Ladisa that are born as an outlet for the fears and aggression that the period of the pandemic has brought to the surface. In the same space are Abdirahman Yusuf’s photos, curated by Mohamed Mire, which tell the Somali everyday life, seeking an escape from a fragmented reality deeply scratched by internal conflicts that do not hint at any resolution.

The drawings in translucent paper by Antonella Argentilepresented by Margherita Campanini and Stella Vatopoulou, and the printing matrices by Mattia Marinicurated by Francesco Ladisa, will be exhibited at Palazzo Bembo. The former clearly represents a double thread with the aquatic transparency of the lagoon, while the silhouettes of the latter, carved out of dry wood, become a self-therapy to chase away one’s demons and trap them in external idols. It will also be possible to watch Summertime, a video projection curated by Utku Cenan Yıldırım, who intends to create a parallelism between the contemporary Venetian and the past of the city.

At Palazzo Mora and Palazzo Bembo the guests of the evening will also have the opportunity to attend live experiences of various kinds. In the garden of Palazzo Mora, Giacomo Gandola and Fabio Scrivanti will present an audio-video performance that focuses on the erosion of the sandbanks of the Venetian lagoon, while Matteo Buratto will entertain the public with a live-painting experience, during which the artist will complete a work that explores the concept of estrangement. At the same time the artist and musician Alessandro Zannier, with the musical pseudonym Ottodix, will perform live in the suggestive courtyard of Palazzo Bembo, presenting the Hyperobject Still Life 100 canvas, part of the “ENT1” project, and performing in duo with sounds and images typical of his continuous artistic and musical research.

The visit path is intertwined with Time Space Existence, resulting in an exhibition within the exhibition, generating a syncopated succession of different impressions. Following this suggestion, the curatorial choice was to identify works and artists capable of creating a dialogue between the space and the visitor, with the desire to stimulate greater awareness, understanding and empathy towards the theme addressed. Through the works chosen, visitors are invited to reflect on the sense of illusion and protection that the theme of the event naturally brings with it.

The Venetian context, fertile land for the transmutation of thought, is the perfect scenario for investigation and tangible confirmation with its endless nights. Suspended between Latent and Metaphysical. Between Imagination and Wonder. Between Reality and Dream.
