Kara is an artist based in the north of England. Her practice incorporates sculpture, installation, performance and drawing. Most of the work she pursues is engaged with corporeality via the transformative potential of material states. She is a sculptor in the extended field whose practice forms part of a dialogue about the contextual and theoretical position of sculpture in a contemporary setting. Kara is the founder and director of Ebor Studio and GalleryFRANK in North Manchester. She was a university lecturer in Fine Art for 22 years. With partner Paul Haywood, she established Guns to Goods, an ongoing project making artworks from recycled guns in the interests of peace-making, in collaboration with Greater Manchester Police and peace charity Carisma.
