Lightroom Studio, LLC

Lightroom is a multidisciplinary architecture and design practice based in Decatur, Georgia. Known for pushing the boundaries between disciplines, Lightroom brings together architects, artists, and makers in a studio environment that celebrates experimentation, material inquiry, and conceptual rigour. Founded with the belief that architecture is both a cultural act and an artistic endeavor, Lightroom engages in projects that range from civic installations and design-build education to residential transformations and international exhibitions. Our work is rooted in a collaborative ethos that values the contributions of Fellows—an evolving group of creatives from fields as varied as filmmaking, fashion, sculpture, and writing. These partnerships enrich our design process and ensure that each project resonates beyond traditional architectural expectations. At Lightroom, we see architecture as a form of expanded practice: tactile, civic-minded, and inclusive of the poetic and the practical. Whether designing a neighbourhood café, curating an urban garden, or exhibiting at the Venice Biennale, we approach each commission as an opportunity to explore how space, light, and memory can be shaped into meaningful experiences.
Lightroom was founded by William Carpenter, FAIA, PhD, DPACSA a nationally recognised architect, educator, and author. With a body of work spanning four decades, Bill’s contributions include multiple award-winning publications, built works, and academic programs. His leadership continues to shape Lightroom’s philosophy and its commitment to mentorship, design excellence, and socially engaged practice.
