Sigrid Adriaenssens and the Form Finding Lab

Sigrid Adriaenssens is a structural engineer and designer studying spatial structures and their behavior across a wide range of scales and materials. To advance the field, she develops algorithms to solve challenges of sustainability and resilience in urban forms. While her work has obvious sculptural qualities, the forms are dictated by engineering efficiency. In her cross-disciplinary work, she has nurtured collaborations with researchers from diverse fields, including computer science, biology, robotics, philosophy, visual arts, and choreography. As a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Princeton University, she directs the Form Finding Lab while also teaching courses in structural engineering and the integration of engineering and the arts.
