The International Archive of Women in Architecture (IAWA): toward a balanced history of architecture
The presentation will explore the future of archiving and women's records, envisioning an archive that supports a more balanced architectural history
In conjunction with the immersive exhibition 40×40, currently on display at Palazzo Bembo, which features material from the IAWA collections in celebration of the IAWA’s 40th anniversary, the presentation and roundtable discussion will explore the future of archiving, and the future of women’s records, as we aim collectively to envision an archive of the future that would enable a balanced history of architecture.
The mission of the IAWA is to preserve women’s records and foster research aimed at repairing the omissions in the recorded history of architecture. This program seeks to raise the awareness of the underrepresentation of women in architectural archives, the general absence of dedicated women’s collections, and the urgent need to establish women’s archives internationally, both as institutional entities and as symbols.
