Global Design Initiative for Refugee Children (GDIRC)

The Global Design Initiative for Refugee Children (GDIRC) was established in 2016 by Boston’s design community to address gaps in humanitarian aid through thoughtful design. Working with international NGOs and local communities, we create play spaces that promote healing and development for displaced children. Our collaborative approach brings together architects, landscape designers, mental health experts, and community partners to build environments that foster social cohesion and resilience. Winner of the 2020 AIA National Collaborative Achievement Award, GDIRC has completed seven projects across Lebanon, Greece, Uganda, Mexico, and the US.
