ArchDaily’s 2025 Next Practices Awards
Looking ahead in architecture to recognise practices that go beyond the conventional
As the architecture profession continues to evolve, expanding its role in addressing pressing environmental and social challenges, ArchDaily’s Next Practices Awards have become a global platform to spotlight those shaping new ways forward. Since 2020, the awards have recognised practices that go beyond the conventional, developing innovative and highly responsive approaches to sustainability, resilience, and equity.
The 5th edition of the Next Practices Awards was announced on 19 September, 2025, during the Copenhagen Architecture Biennale, where 20 winning practices from around the globe were revealed at the CAFx Headquarters. The announcement was accompanied by an exhibition and a panel discussion, exploring how the next generation of practitioners is “slowing down” to foster more mindful, durable, and community-driven solutions.
This year marks a milestone in the award’s evolution: for the first time, ArchDaily introduced an external jury to complement its editorial team’s rigorous evaluation. The distinguished jury included:
- Josephine Michau, Founder and Director of the Copenhagen Architecture Festival
- Gabriela Carrillo, Founder of Taller Gabriela Carrillo and Co-Founder of Colectivo C733
- Lucia Pedrana, Head of University Relations at the European Cultural Centre Italy (ECC Italy)
- Vinu Daniel, Founder of Wallmakers and winner of the inaugural Next Practices Awards in 2020
- Eloisa Ramos and Moreno Castellano, Founders of RamosCastellano Arquitectos
The connection between the Next Practices Awards and the European Cultural Centre Italy goes beyond Lucia Pedrana’s presence on the jury. At this year’s edition of the biennial architecture exhibition Time Space Existence, ECC Italy is hosting, in collaboration with ArchDaily, the first-ever retrospective dedicated to Next Practices. This special section traces the evolution of the awards and showcases the diversity of practices that have redefined the role of architecture over the past five years.
By combining global recognition in Copenhagen with a retrospective exhibition in Venice, the 2025 edition showcases Next Practices' ambition to look ahead, embracing architectural approaches that rethink space, materials, and communities in pursuit of a more sustainable future.
